At the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg, Mr. Zampetti is working on a research project entitled “Signs of Crisis in the European System of Fundamental Rights: Protocol No. 16 to the ECHR and the Issue of the Accession of the European Union to the Convention”. The research focuses on the introduction of an advisory opinions procedure to the ECtHR by Protocol No.16 to the ECHR and its possible interference with other judicial mechanisms of cooperation between judges at the national constitutional level and at the EU level in the field of fundamental rights protection. The aim of the project is to analyze the issues arising from this potential innovation and to inquire whether it may determine an increase or a decrease in the effectiveness of the overall protection.
