The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation will co-host the international conference “The Future of Transatlantic Relations: Challenges in Trade, Security and Environmental Policy” in Hamburg, Germany on 16 and 17 November 2018.
What will the future of transatlantic relations look like? They have changed in their core because of the “America First” policy with punitive tariffs, doubts about the purpose of NATO and the US exit from the Paris Agreement. The conference will provide a platform for high-level politicians, academics, journalists, business- and civil society representatives from the US and the EU to discuss in the format of three panels: “Trade and Investment”, “Environment and Climate” and “Peace and Security”. Participants will debate current global questions in the above-mentioned fields, possible transatlantic responses to them and, more broadly, the future of US-EU relations.
Prominent speakers are Niels Annen, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Professor Gabriel Felbermayr, Head of the ifo Institute Center for Economic Studies, and Geneviève Pons, Director of the European Office of the Jacques Delors Institute. You can find out more about the conference on our dedicated website, available at www.fotar2018.org, where you can register for a spot (limited availability).
Fotar2018 is supported by the Hamburg Parliament and it is the first international conference, co-organized by the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation.
