This work offers a comprehensive overview of the history of the European Union and the idea of Europe. In an engaging way, the individual laborious steps on the way to European unification are described:
From the beginning in 1957 with the “Treaties of Rome”, through many intermediate stages, finally the “Treaty of Maastricht” was reached in 1993, which brought the foundation of the European Union, the completion of the Single Market and the decision to introduce the Euro. In 2007, the “Constitutional Treaty” of Lisbon was signed, which will considerably strengthen the EU’s ability to act.
This voluntary union of European states ensures lasting peace between them and is one of Europe’s greatest political achievements.
