The European competition law of the EC Treaty is directly applicable in the Member States. The national courts therefore fulfill an important function in the implementation of the Community competition rules. A research project led by the editor of this volume is devoted to the study of the judicial practice of the courts of the Member States. Country reports for Great Britain and Italy were presented with a first volume in 1992. In this volume, the country reports for Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Ireland are published. Further country reports are in preparation.

Practitioners of European competition law are thus provided with access to case law in other Member States; the Community institutions are given an insight into the implementation of Community law by national courts; academics find material for further comparative analyses. The authors are experts in competition law from the various Member States.
