In the beginning of May, we added three new members to our staff here at Europa-Kolleg Hamburg, whom we would like to introduce briefly.

John Beuren has successfully completed his legal training (Referendariat) this April by passing the bar exam. Following his law studies at the University of Hamburg he started working for an international law firm and began writing his doctoral thesis on the topic of “The Al Qaida sanction regime as an exercise of supranational competencies by the Security Council”. In his current research Mr. Beuren focuses on questions of public and European law.

Christina Anikó Simmig has studied law at the University of Hamburg, as well. During her studies, among other distinctions, she has successfully completed the programme “Chinese law taught in English” at the EU-China School of Law in Beijing. She was also a member of the Philip C. Jessup moot court team 2013/14. Ms. Simmig is currently working on her dissertation in the field of European and public international law.

Christina Simmig and John Beuren make up the new team of programme coordinators for the Master’s programme in “European and European Legal Studies”. They agree on their first impressions: “An international spirit and an interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching are core values here at the Europa-Kolleg. We are looking forward to our future tasks here and are especially enjoying to work for and with our diverse community of students from all over the world!”

Also since the start of May, Kim Lenhart is working for the Institute for European Integration as a student employee. Ms. Lenhart is currently studying Social Economics with a focus on management at the University of Hamburg. Among other tasks Ms. Lenhart is assisting the research directorate and in content management of the institute’s website.
