On Wednesday, January 5th, our students of the Master’s Programme European and European Legal Studies attended a lecture on the “Current challenges for the monetary policy of the eurosystem” by the Central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany (Deutsche Bundesbank).

As an introduction, Dr Arno Bäcker, President of the Regional Office in Hamburg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, presented the tasks of the central bank in the context of the monetary union.  Afterwards, the relationship of the ECB and the Bundesbank’s handling of new crises such as the pandemic and the climate crisis were discussed.

The lecture offered the students a valuable addition to the seminar content and the opportunity to pose their questions and gain great insight into the work of the ECB.
